Swedish Cuisine

Sweden is a pretty extensive country, so, Swedish cuisine varies from North to South. For example, far North prefers reindeer and game (wild animals hunted for food), also some roots from the Sami culture. However, the South prefers fresh vegetables.

In general, Swedish cuisine is centered around dairy products, crisp and soft breads, berries and stone fruits, beef and pork, seafood, shellfish, fish, pickled fish/vegetable. They also use potatoes as a side dish.

They have a lot of different types of bread, 7 types of bread ingredients. They eat also with bread the lingonberry jam. Fruit soups are also famous, one example is the blueberry soup (blåbärssoppa) which is served hot or cold.

Butter and margarine are the most common fat sources even though olive oil is becoming popular. They also appreciate some pastries as yeast buns, cookies, biscuits and cakes (with less sugar than in the U.S.A.) which are very used in the coffee brakes.
